Too Many Cooks Theme Song Download
- it draws from lots of sources, so it's a really dense piece that could just be dismissed as a goof after a first viewing. but i feel that there's a definite story with a certain ending, and the remaining moments that don't exactly fit into the narrative end up being moot anyway.
- the plot, in a few words, is this: Ken DeLozier is ill, and the disease is causing him to lose his mind in a very literal sense.
- the scene closest to what we would call ‘reality’ is when we see him in the hospital. this is evident for three reasons: the treatment of the theme song, the composition of the scene and his role as the principle actor. this is the only scene where there is a reprieve from the song in any incarnation, and we can hear it originating from Ken himself, which indicates that this is all an internal struggle. this is the only other scene besides the chase and the button where the composition doesn’t fit into campy intro parody, and when seen from this perspective, it’s obvious why Ken is the first featured actor - he’s the star, and this is his show. it’s interesting to note that show-Ken is an architect, and his first appearance is him reviewing drafted plans.
- the doctor calls the disease ‘Intronitis,’ and that this is the worst case he’s seen. when he contracts it himself, he begs to be killed, indicating that he sees it as a fate worse than death. this likely means that it is untreatable and terminal. it’s pretty clear what the effects of the disease are - it causes constant hallucinations of TV show intros. however, since Ken’s condition is the worst the doctors have seen, it is not unreasonable to consider his infection unique among those affected.
- this brings us to The Killer. it might be more reasonable to claim that The Killer is native to the disease, and everyone afflicted will suffer the same fate. this would explain why the doctor is so afraid once he’s contracted it. but The Killer’s presence and behavior are inconsistent with the other effects of Intronitis, so i prefer treating him as a representation of Ken’s own Jungian Shadow Aspect and the reason Ken's infection is so bad. he is the manifestation of all the repressed negative aspects of Ken’s personality, effectively making him the NegaKen. until now, The Killer has always existed, but has been kept in check by Ken’s normally functioning psyche. his first appearances are of him standing perfectly still, not actually doing anything, as early as 22 seconds in. this may be because, up until now, he’s been kept locked in a deep subconscious cage, and the onset of Intronitis has enthralled, or at least distracted, all of Ken’s defenses. remember how Ken was looking at building drafts? he stopped doing that as soon as he saw a child’s drawing between his plans. this may be the moment when The Killer was let out - Ken looked away from his plans/defenses to smile and mug the camera, allowing the worst of himself to run loose.
- you can imagine The Killer’s realization of what’s happening as the intro progresses. he begins to move and interact with the new mindscape, doing little more than touching and moving things in the background. but he quickly gets wise to what’s happening, and decides to do what he has wanted to for as long as he’s been around. kill! it takes him a couple attempts to learn how fast he has to act to effect such a change in this intro world, since his first tries aren’t fast enough to beat the freeze+cut to other actors. but he learns how to blend in and act as though he belongs in the scenes, until he’s able to move around even during freeze frames. we see him start to systematically kill and replace actors, and this is his motivation for the rest of the short: a hostile takeover of Ken’s mind.
- it’s possible that Ken, on some level, has figured out what’s going on, but far too late. his defenses are already too weak, and no amount of superhero outfit changes and cop dramas are going to stop The Killer. the only one who appears to have any power to challenge his rampage is Smarf, who could be a manifestation of Ken’s superego. but by now his rainbows and lasers are no match for The Killer’s machete, which is the most likely cause of his demise on the kitchen floor.
- this brings us to The Button. it appears from nowhere in a bizarre place, and Smarf is desperate to press it. considering his evident power and enmity with The Killer, it is only reasonable to assume that its emergency effect will be a positive one. it is, however, unclear whether he succeeds in pressing it, bringing salvation, or dies while touching it, allowing damnation. i stand with the latter, since what we see next is all of the Cooks boxed in neat rows and columns, or cells, possibly like the one from which The Killer was allowed to escape at the onset of Ken’s Intronitis. the end of the intro sees Ken himself replaced by The Killer, a la Twin Peaks’ Bob or The Shining’s Jack. he’s always been The Killer, and now he’s in charge.
- now that Ken has been 100% replaced by his Shadow, the intro ends, the show is as brief as possible, and the illness has run its course after the credits roll. i imagine that Ken wakes up, but he’s not Ken anymore.

Too Many Cooks is a surrealdark comedyshort that originally aired as a special during Adult Swim's 'infomercials' block on October 28, 2014, at 4:00 am Eastern Time.[2][3] It was created, written, and directed by Casper Kelly, and produced by Williams Street. After its original airing, the piece became a viral video online and was repeated each night at midnight Eastern Time during the week of November 11, 2014.
Premise[edit]
The video begins as a parody of opening credits sequences of 1970s, 1980s and 1990s American situation comedies, then television crime dramas, prime time soap operas, Saturday-morning cartoons, superhero live-action series, slasher films and science fiction television shows, with each of them gradually bleeding into the next. Particular focus is put on a slasher film villain (played by William Tokarsky), who is hidden in the background of several early shots but eventually starts killing the other characters with a machete. The opening credits sequence ends after about ten minutes and transitions into the 'episode', with all the characters from the opening standing in the one house; the short ends roughly ten seconds later, cutting to closing credits before a full line of dialogue can be spoken.[4]
Development and production[edit]
According to Kelly, he conveyed the concept of the short to his Squidbillies writer-producer friend Jim Fortier, who in turn described it to Adult Swim executive Mike Lazzo, who loved the idea. The footage was filmed over a period of three days in October 2013 with a cast completely composed of extras from the Atlanta area.[5]Post-production took a year, with Kelly recruiting friends and co-workers to help with the process.[6]

While the video depicts the opening credits of a fictional television show, most of the cast members' real names were used.[5][7][8][9][10][11] According to Katie Adkins, actors were not presented with a clearly explained script, but rather coached on the go, in a somewhat nonchalant manner.[12]
Among the series openings parodied are those of Full House, Wonder Woman, The Brady Bunch, Dallas, Falcon Crest, ALF, G.I. JOE, Roseanne, Family Matters, T. J. Hooker, Seinfeld, and the Law & Order franchise.[13] The short briefly mentions avant-garde film director Lars von Trier.[14]
Reception[edit]
Upon its release by a third party on YouTube, Too Many Cooks became a viral video,[15] with Rolling Stone calling it an 'instant cult classic'.[5] Director Rian Johnson said that, 'no joke', Too Many Cooks should have been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film.[16][17] Comedians including Penn Jillette, Simon Pegg, Zach Braff, and Richard Kellytweeted their positive reactions to Too Many Cooks.[18]
David Sims of The Atlantic wrote that Too Many Cooks relied on 'the classic anti-comedy premise of taking so long with something that it goes from being funny, to being not very funny, to being boring, to suddenly becoming hilarious again. More than that, it's an excellent piece of non-narrative sketch comedy that sets out boundaries for its own weird reality and then goes about breaking them over and over again.'[19]Dr. Vst crack autotune. Julian Darius called it 'a sublime postmodern masterpiece' and analyzed its metafictional aspects.[20]
Legacy[edit]
CNN created a parody of the video in March 2015, using it to mock the number of potential candidates in the 2016 United States Presidential Election.[21]
Too Many Cooks 2014
In June 2018, Adult Swim published a short film by Casper Kelly and Nick Gibbons titled Final Deployment 4: Queen Battle Walkthrough, which parodies livestreaming gaming culture. Kelly described this short as his spiritual successor to Too Many Cooks.[22][23]
